John Marchese, 81, formerly of Chelsea, passed suddenly in his sleep on August 28 at his home on Beaver Lake in Derry, NH. Born in Chelsea on July 29, 1942, to the late Eleanor and Michael Marchese, he was a 1960 graduate of Chelsea High School.
He is survived by his sister, Lorraine Bruno, of Chelsea, his daughter Amy Anthony and son-in law, David Anthony, of Nyack, NY, his daughter Tara Marchese, of Glendale, AZ, and his son Matthew Marchese, of Delhi, NY. He is survived also by two grandchildren, Jackson and Sophie, and his beloved nieces Stacey Bruno and fiancé Edward “Fitzy” Fitzgerald of East Boston, and Tracey Bruno of Chelsea.
John was a retired draftsman with a lifelong career in the steel industry, for Bethlehem Steel and Barker Steel before his retirement. He was proud of work he did for projects like The Big Dig and Rowes Wharf. He was an avid gardener, loved to thrift shop and watch horror movies. He was kind, generous, and funny. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
There are no visiting hours. A funeral mass will be at Our Lady of Grace Parish in Everett at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, September 5, followed by burial at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett.
John was a longtime supporter of St. Jude’s Hospital, Shriners Hospitals for Children, and the Association of the Miraculous Medal; donations may be made in his name to those organizations in lieu of flowers.
