Civitareale, Anthony Joseph “Smiley” 80 of Medford was called to his eternal home suddenly on August 15, 2023. Anthony, a life-long resident of Medford, was born in Medford on February 20, 1943, son of the late Rocco and Mary (Pasquale) Civitareale. He is survived by his wife Sandra (Shy) Civitareale, his daughters Michelle (Anthony) Indelicato and Courtney Civitareale with her partner Christopher Courtney; four bonus children, Stephen (Donna) Sproull, Michela (Michael) Maggio, Robert Naucke and Chanda (Brian) Kelley as well as many cousins. A blended family of 28 years they were the proud grandparents of 18 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
After working for the MBTA for 39 years Smiley finally decided to retire and spent time traveling with Sandi to Italy, and Israel and their favorite get-away in the mountains of Tennessee; working in the yard, grilling with a beer in-hand, and enjoying his family and friends.
Besides his love for his family, he was known for his infectious smile, quick wit, generosity and kind and compassionate spirit. Words cannot express how much he will be missed.
To honor his wishes, there will be no visitation. A Celebration of Life will be held at Anthony’s of Malden on Saturday, September 9, 2023, from Noon to 3pm. Those wishing to donate in his memory may do so at Wounded Warriors Project (support.woundedwarriorsproject.org) or Tunnel to Towers (t2t.org/donate).
